Quick Start Guide for the Administration Area

ACCESSING THE HOME & FAMILY ADMINISTRATION AREA.

Only an Administrator, using his/her User Name and Password, can access the Home & Family Administration Area. There are two ways to access the Administration Area:

If Home & Family is installed, double-click on the Home & Family Administration desktop icon. Enter your Administrator User Name and Password. Your Account ID is populated. If Home & Family is NOT installed, click on this link or copy it to your Web browser:

Enter your Administrator User Name, Password and Account ID. Click SUBMIT to enter the Home & Family Administration Area.

From the Administration Area, Administrators can manage general and billing account information, add new users or edit current users, view each users last activity by date/time in the activity log, submit URLs to WebBalanced Technologies for review or reevaluation, download the current Home & Family Plug-in, obtain an uninstall key to uninstall Home & Family from your computer, access the Home & Family users guide, and submit a technical support contact form.

Here is a brief guide to what you can do in the Administration Area:

Click on Users Guide submenu of the Help link in the Home & Family Administration Area for more detailed information. This Quick Start Guide and Technical Support FAQ (most frequently asked questions) are also submenus of the Help link.

These menu and submenu links are accessible in the Administration Area:

ACCOUNT INFO

There are two submenus: GENERAL INFO; and BILLING INFO.

  • GENERAL INFO accesses the Personal Account Information screen to edit basic demographic information such as name, address, phone number and email address.
  • BILLING INFO accesses the Billing Information screen that displays billing details and allows you to update your billing address and credit card information, including your credit card number. NOTE: You may receive a message that billing for your Home & Family account is handled by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). The billing information is not displayed.

INTERNET ACCESS MANAGEMENT

There are four submenus: EDIT USERS; NEW USERS; SUBMIT URLs; and ACTIVITY LOG.

  • EDIT USERS. Accesses the User Administration screen to add, edit and delete users as well as modify user characteristics.
  • NEW USER. Accesses the User Administration screen to add a NEW user.
  • SUBMIT URLs. Accesses the Submit URL for Review screen where URLs can be submitted to the WebBalanced Site Review team for review or reevaluation.
  • ACTIVITY LOG. The User Activity Log screen provides an at-a-glance of all users' last activities by date and time.

Under EDIT USERS, the Administrator for Home & Family can access the Characteristic settings for all Users. The Administrator can allow or deny viewing for over 30 Characteristics.

These Characteristics are grouped into 4 color-coded areas for ease of use:

  • Adult Content
  • Mature Subject
  • MatterUnpredictable
  • Areas Belief Systems

Administrators can mouseover (hold your mouse pointer over) a Characteristic to view a brief definition of that Characteristic or click on a Characteristic for a more detailed definition. The User Characteristics Administration screen is where the Administrator of the account can choose unique browsing levels for each user:

  • Preset or Default Setting for Adult Users 21 Years and Older: Review and accept the default setting with no changes. Note: The Default Setting for users 21 years and older is to allow FULL Internet access except for Pornography. Filtering of pornographic related terms in search engines is always enabled. Allow access to Secure Web Sites is NOT enabled by default.
  • Preset or Default Setting for Teen Users Ages 13-20: Review and accept the default setting with no changes. Note: The Default Setting for users ages 13-20 is to DENY viewing of ALL characteristics EXCEPT ALLOW viewing of Games, Humor, Main Shareware Sites, News and Media, Online Games, Pay to Surf, Search Engines, Streaming Media, Major World Religions, Other Belief Systems, and Paranormal. Filtering of pornographic related terms in search engines is always enabled. Allow access to Secure Web Sites is NOT enabled by default.
  • Preset or Default Setting for Child Users Ages 0-12: Review and accept the default setting with no changes. Note: The Default Setting for users ages 0-12 is to DENY viewing of ALL characteristics EXCEPT ALLOW viewing of Games, Humor, Main Shareware Sites, News and Media, Online Games, Pay to Surf, Search Engines, Streaming Media, and Major World Religions. Filtering of pornographic related terms in search engines is always enabled. Allow access to Secure Web Sites is NOT enabled by default.
  • Individual Characteristics: Allow or deny viewing by individual characteristics by clicking the respective radial button under "Allow" or "Deny" for each characteristic. Note: If you select to allow pornography, clicking SAVE displays this confirmation message: "The Pornography characteristic has been enabled for this Characteristic Set. Press OK if you want to continue or press CANCEL if you want to change this setting."

CONFIGURATION

There are two submenus: DOWNLOAD PLUG-IN; and UNINSTALL KEY.

  • DOWNLOAD PLUG-IN. Accesses the Download Plug-in screen to install the latest Plug-in (setup file) for Home & Family with a single-click of the mouse.
  • UNINSTALL KEY. Accesses the Uninstall screen to secure an uninstall key. Only Administrators can uninstall Home & Family from their computers by entering their Administrator password along with this uninstall key value. NOTE: If you are uninstalling Home & Family, but not closing your account, be sure to UNCHECK THE BOX "CLOSE MY ACCOUNT" before clicking CONTINUE.

There are four submenus: TECHNICAL SUPPORT FAQ; USERS GUIDE; QUICK START GUIDE; and CONTACT US .

  • TECHNICAL SUPPORT FAQ. Accesses the Home & Family Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to view or print. Table of contents are hyper linked for ease and speed of use. This FAQ covers a wide range of topics, including system requirements, general information, installation, installation issues, Administration Area, site review messages, billing information, and closing an account.
  • USERS GUIDE. Accesses the Home & Family Users Guide to view or print. Table of contents are hyper linked for ease and speed of use. This Guide provides detailed stepby-step information about system requirements, online account creation, installation, Home & Family login, how to access the Home & Family Administration System, uninstall, and site review messages that explain clearly the restrictions users may encounter.
  • QUICK START GUIDE. Accesses this Quick Start Guide to view or print. This Guide focuses on accessing and managing your account in the Home & Family Administration Area.

Accesses Home & Family's Technical Support Form that can be completed by Administrators and submitted to the WebBalanced Technologies' technical support team.
