How does it work?

Websites are sorted into 50 categories of content

  • Categories include things like Hate Speech, Pornography, Alcohol-Tobacco, Career Opportunities/Resumes, On-Line Games, Gambling, and Web Based Email to name a few.
  • All categorization is performed by our team of human reviewers. "Machine Intelligence" is easily fooled and cannot be trusted to accurately evaluate Internet content.

Administrators decide which categories to make available to employees

  • Characteristic sets can be developed into policies reflecting changing time of day/day of week settings and applied to individual users or groups of users
  • Every category can be set to allow, restrict, or override. Override setting allows the user to continue through to the blocked site after viewing a warning page.
  • Certain applications like Instant Messaging (IM) or Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing can be restricted too. (Did you know that the most popular use of P2P software, like KaZaa or Morpheus, is for downloading pornography?)

The WebBalanced Office plug-in is installed to the Windows operating system on each company computer where filtering is required

  • It intercepts requests for information from the Internet and compares the characteristic set for each user to the WebBalanced Technologies database.
  • If it is content that you, the administrator, have allowed for that user, access is seamless. But, if it does not match the allowed characteristics, a block page is displayed indicating why it was not allowed.
  • Account administrators also have the ability to create "always permit" or "always restrict" sites, and can automatically submit a website URL for prompt evaluation by the human review team
  • Search engine results can be filtered via the WebBalanced Protected Word List.
